He’s one of those guys that — unless I’m totally missing — if we win the game, and he has no catches, he’s gonna be fired up. And if he has 10 catches for 200 yards and we lose the game, he’s gonna be pissed. That’s the first and foremost thing that I love about him, the guy is all ball, all team. OC Press Taylor: on how Zavion Thomas has managed everything the Bears have put on his plate, since returning from his injury: Obviously, it doesn’t help when you’re a young player and you’re needing to learn a lot and you need to gain a lot of experience, and then you miss a lot of time with an injury. So, he’s still kinda in that process of catching up to everybody else that’s been here competing. But the talent has flashed since he got here. We get the daily reports on miles per hour, and he’s always beyond 20. That’s something you see, you saw it in the game the other day, with a few opportunities and what he’s able to do with it. That is something that he is gifted with, but there’s so much more that goes into earning a role for yourself week to week. So, that’s something he’s gonna continue to prove and earn, as we go into the season.

Mitchell Evans is just a big-bodied Y blocker, who’s also a very capable wideout for us. I think Darren Waller has a unique skill set that we can utilize. I know Dave Canales and his staff are really excited about having him, and the different dimension he can bring to our offense.

HC Dave Canales: on the TE room: Mitchell Evans is a big Y, traditional body type, who can body up with OLBs and defensive ends. Tommy Tremble has versatility, physical in the run game, fast enough to stretch the field and make things happen that way. JT Sanders kinda does a little bit of all of it, and can play in the slot some as a receiver, and has improved his ability to play on special teams. Feleipe Franks is one of the really premier special teams players in the league, and then watching his growth as a tight end and his pass-catching ability is really intriguing. Then, of course, we know what Darren Waller looks like on film, we know the element he can bring to us.

HC Monken: Harold Fannin Jr

HC Todd Monken: Harold Fannin Jr. is still a developmental blocker, but what I do like about him is that, at times, guys with his athleticism aren’t all-in on the blocking aspect — which he has shown he will be, he will do that for our team. So, that’s still a work in progress. But I think he has the ability to be a matchup player, but also an elite run-after-catch guy. What I’ve seen on film is the run-after-catch, and a bull with the ball in his hands. Now, it’s can we get him further along in his blocking, and then as a matchup player.

HC Todd Monken: on whether KC Concepcion came along even faster than Monken expected: I don’t know if “faster” is the word, but we are pleased with his progress. I think we hoped and anticipated that he would bring the things we saw on tape, from return value, to just getting the ball in his hands, and then his route-running down the field. We had seen contested catches, and I think from a ball skill standpoint, he’s been great.

HC Monken: Sure, but I look at punt return as an opportunity for a…

HC Todd Monken: on whether Monken has any concerns about using KC Concepcion as a punt returner, with Concepcion looking so good as a receiver: Sure, but I look at punt return as an opportunity for an explosive, in terms of changing field position. So, I think you do have to balance the risk of that — but, at this point, it makes too much sense for us to use him in every way we can as a weapon, and that’s one of those.

HC Monken: Sure

HC Todd Monken: on whether Monken feels like he has a wide range of explosives on this team: Sure. I think Harold Fannin can be explosive — either with his route-running, or running people over. I think we’ve seen Quinshon Judkins be explosive. We’ve seen Dylan Sampson be explosive. I’ve seen KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston be explosive. I’ve seen Jerry Jeudy at his best, and Isaiah Bond be explosive.

When we got back in OTAs, this guy was locked in. He really took to some of the “Three Better, Three Best” ways we talk about development and things we need to improve upon, but also lean into the great things that he’s able to do. He has attacked this offseason the right way. Really building on that chemistry and relationship with Trevor Lawrence. He can roll, man. When he’s playing at a high level, our offense is just different. He has that ability to draw #1 coverage from the defense. You have to double him sometimes if you feel like he’s getting past the third level of the defense. We’re really excit

GM Gladstone: Trevor Lawrence — wow

GM James Gladstone: on how encouraged Gladstone was by Trevor Lawrence and Travis Hunter’s camps: Both of them have continued to climb and get comfortable in their roles and how they’re operating. For Trevor, there have been quite a few more “wow” moments throughout the course of this training camp than we may have seen a year ago. I think that speaks to his comfort in testing things and really not ever second-guessing himself, because of his familiarity and understanding of intent behind plays and what he can get away with. That element has certainly been something that I’ve been inspired by — I think that will show itself over the course of the regular season, as he begins to build chemistry with our pass-catchers. From Travis’ perspective, I think that’s a great work in progress, knowing that he’s put a lot more focus on the defensive side, down the back end of training camp, and still getting his plays on offense, but really settling in so that that defensive backfield can have the continuity that it needs.

HC Coen: Trevor Lawrence — confidence up; playing big and fast

HC Liam Coen: on what the Jaguars unlocked in Trevor Lawrence last year, that will cascade over to 2026: I think just being him, being the best version of himself. When Trevor keeps it simple, goes through a read and doesn’t like it, he has the opportunity and athleticism to use his legs as a weapon. It’s something that we benefited greatly from last season — especially in the red zone. Just continuing to urge him to be himself — be the quarterback that you are, while using your arm as a weapon, but don’t forget about using your legs. That’s such a huge advantage. Just encouraging him to continue to be him. I thought we saw a really great version of him towards the back end of last year, as he got more comfortable. And we’ve got some playmakers that he can get the ball to in space.

on Coen’s plans for the RB room: We can’t replace what Travis Etienne was able to do for us at times last year. We’re looking for consistency, efficiency, and for these guys to just go be themselves. I think Bhayshul Tuten has had a really good camp — especially the last two weeks in the joint practices. Chris Rodriguez being a little bit more of that thump, and being able to get some of those difficult, hard yards that we all know you need in this league. LeQuint Allen is one of our running backs that’s specific to third down, and he’s our pass-protector. He’s a savage, love him. And then Ameer Abdullah is a 12-year vet that just continues to do the right things. He’s a great example in the room, but he’s also got some juice. We’re excited about that room, I think it’s a room that’s maybe gonna surprise some people.

They certainly round that WR group out in a real way, and have earned trust from so many, in a rapid manner. We thought last year at this time that we were gonna go into the season and run the football, and obviously that didn’t end up being the case. So, we’ve gotta go out and prove that we can. Obviously, he’s a big piece of what we’re doing. I think people have a perception of Travis when he came out, that he’s a receiver slash running back. I see an elite running back. An elite running back. Great instincts, he has great vision, great contact balance. There’s a lot of things this guy does at an elite, elite level, as just a true tailback. You’re talking about a savant — athletically and mentally. Outside of that Matt Ryan experience in Atlanta, I’d be hard-pressed to ever say that I was ever on a football team, and a quarterback was the best player on the team. I just hadn’t operated in professional football with the assumption that the quarterback was the best player. After 20 years, to be on a team with the best player being the quarterback, it’s extremely unique and exciting, and I feel like I’m doing something illegal each day at practice, because it just doesn’t make any sense. You talk about the mental capability, the processing. Visually, he sees everything. He’s 6’6”, he can utilize that skill set pretty well, because it’s not often that his vision is obstructed. He has an arm that doesn’t make any sense. I feel like I’m ready to handle all of his skill set and appropriately utilize that, but I’m also having my eyes opened to football possibilities and different things that we can try and do, because he can access more blades of grass. All offensive football is, is that you’re trying to maximize the amount of space that defenses have to defend. I’ve done it in the run game for years, and being able to do it in the pass game is pretty exciting and fun each and every day.

And we know he can run the football, we know he’s talented at that and being able to catch the ball out of the backfield. We’re really pleased with him.

The first day, I thought we had a lot of big plays, and just a couple turnovers we need to clean up — obviously, that’s always a focus for us. But you could really see the run game come to life, you could see the playaction passes off of it. You could see the explosives in the pass game, as well. He did a really nice job. I was really happy with how Jalen played throughout.

He’s done a really nice job, he’s been locked in in all the walkthrough settings. Even when he can’t get the rep, he’s kind of shadowing his position on the field and staying super engaged. He’s been working his way back, I know he’s looked good.

He’s done everything in his power — despite not having those physical reps — to be ready for us, to make an impact.

HC Schottenheimer: RB room — Really excited about him

This guy’s got 20 explosives over the last couple years, and some of that’s been with OC Klayton Adams. He’s got very good vision. He’s a build-up speed guy that’s got explosive playmaking ability. We love his pass protection, he’s a really good pass protector — both in understanding the scheme, but also in executing the protection principles. He’s been a guy that’s played a number of different roles on special teams.

Just the poise that he’s playing with right now. Two really, really good performances. If you would just take the training camp competition, it’s probably neck-and-neck, and Sam Howell may be a little bit ahead — that’s why he actually started the first preseason game. But Joe has put together two really good performances, and this will be another fun week for them to keep battling.

HC Sean Payton: on where Jonah Coleman has made the biggest strides: I think he’s savvy, he’s smart. I’ve said a number of times that you don’t feel a young player. So, that’s a real good trait. He’s smart, has good contact balance. And so that lends itself to a little bit smoother transition than maybe some. We’ve been around successful players that maybe took a little longer when they arrived, and then some that arrived a little quicker.

Can Garrett play better at times? Yes. I think he’s had a good camp so far, I think the sky is still the limit for him.

The thing that I love about Rashee, first and foremost, is that he’s very, very tough. Another thing — and I’m not saying this in a bad way — he’s hard-headed and he’s stubborn, because he feels that he’s good enough at certain things, and I like that, because you gotta get him to see it from a different point of view. When he can see it from a different point of view with a set of different eyes, now it opens up his brain, and you can see it resonate. Those are the things I’ve learned about him. Now, it’s just about making sure we can get the continuous reps to get him back on track and get him in game shape, because we have to get it right and we gotta make sure that all the little fine details that need to be executed are basically done within the next couple weeks or so.
